ABOUT WARSAW

Warsaw, Poland, offers travelers a walk through history, with its museums and sites commemorating various events in both its recent and ancient past. Some of the attractions in this city include the rebuilt Old Town, which suffered destruction during the Second World War, the Market Square, complete with its charming shops and horse-drawn carriages, the Royal Castle museum, and Tragutta Park. Lazienski Palace is another popular tourist site. It began as a bathhouse but is now an important monument to the neoclassical period. It is surrounded by gardens and sculptures, and has a fountain nearby. It also contains an important historic art collection. For recreation and leisure, tourists can also take advantage of Warsaw’s swimming pools, water parks, and golf courses. Travelers can also visit the Warsaw Zoo, which has about five hundred different kinds of animal species on display.

Visitors will enjoy traveling down Solidarity Avenue, which juxtaposes tranquil gardens and historic monuments with modern skyscrapers. Visitors will also enjoy the city’s vast range of styles of architecture, including buildings made in the neoclassical, gothic, baroque, and renaissance styles. The city has more than eighty parks, in which several different kinds of wild birds can be found, including pheasants and peacocks.

Warsaw began as small settlements on the Vistula River. It was established as a city in the year 1300. When the Polish nation became established, Warsaw became its capital. Over the course of centuries, as Poland was invaded by various other nations and tribes, its capital city saw a great deal of violence. The most recent example occurred during World War II. The city became the site for a Jewish ghetto, which saw a bloody uprising in 1943. After World War II had ended, the citizens of Poland rebuilt the city, despite the substantial destruction it had undergone.
